Every day, there are 100.000 violations of the workers’ rights – says Pece Gruevski, spokesperson for the Association of Trade unions in Macedonia.

– We don’t accept the suggested changes in the Law for working relations because according to them, the increased fines will not enhance the responsibility of the employers. We suggest embracing the concept of the western countries where the disputes are solved through social dialog – says Gruevski.

According to ATU, the capacity of the Labor Inspectorate is small because only 40 inspectors can’t control the work of over 62.000 enterprises. For these changes there are no finances allocated in the budget, which means according to ATU, there can’t be any additional control measures. ATU is against the changes in which the employer instead of closing down the company now needs to pay fine of 5.000 euros which as measure leaves room for another violation of the Law.
